The story on this card

The American League strikeout board for 1975 fills 1976 Topps #204, part of the League Leaders run at #191-205. Frank Tanana of the California Angels led with 269 strikeouts in 257 1/3 innings. He went 16-9 with a 2.62 ERA. Bert Blyleven of the Minnesota Twins and Gaylord Perry, printed as Indians-Rangers, each finished with 233. Blyleven went 15-10 with a 3.00 ERA and 20 complete games. Perry split his 18-17 year between Cleveland and Texas, arriving in a June 13 trade that sent Jim Bibby, Jackie Brown and Rick Waits to the Indians.

Frank Tanana was a left-hander who began as Nolan Ryan's partner on the California Angels staff and finished his 21 years with the Mets and Yankees in 1993. Shoulder trouble turned him from a hard thrower into a pitcher of slower pitches and deception. Bert Blyleven - Dutch-born right-hander with one of the great curveballs of his time: 287 wins, 3,701 strikeouts and 60 shutouts across 22 seasons with the Twins, Rangers, Pirates, Indians and Angels. World Series champion in 1979 and 1987, Hall of Fame class of 2011. Giants right-hander Gaylord Perry had shared a pitching staff with his brother long before professional baseball. At Williamston High School, Gaylord and Jim threw consecutive shutouts to sweep a best-of-three state championship series.
