1976 Topps #353 Sixto Lezcano

About Sixto Lezcano
Lezcano's card #353 is a rookie card. He hit .285 with seven home runs and 14 stolen bases in 145 games, rebounding after a spring thumb injury and a May average of .265. Alex Grammas replaced Del Crandall, who had fined him twice and suspended him for a week in 1975. During the previous winter he had shifted from chasing home runs to going for hits, advice he credited to his Puerto Rican winter-ball teammates.
Sixto Lezcano was a right fielder from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, who played 12 major league seasons (1974-1985) and hit .271 with 148 home runs. The Brewers signed him at 16 in October 1970. He singled in his first at-bat on September 10, 1974, and drove in the winning run in the 10th inning against Baltimore, then was Milwaukee's regular right fielder from 1975 through 1980, known for a strong throwing arm. He is the only player to hit a grand slam on Opening Day twice. After the 1980 season he went to St. Louis in the seven-player deal for Rollie Fingers, Pete Vuckovich and Ted Simmons; after 1981 he went to San Diego with Garry Templeton for Ozzie Smith. He finished with the Phillies, reaching the 1983 World Series, and the Pirates in 1985, and later played in Japan for Yokohama.
