About Bob Myrick

Myrick pitched 44 games for the 1977 Mets, with a 3.61 ERA over 87 1/3 innings. Manager Joe Torre moved him into the rotation after six innings against the Reds on August 25, but a four-run first inning in Atlanta on September 4 ended the experiment. His two saves came at Wrigley Field on September 11 and in St. Louis on September 30. His Topps rookie card is #627, with the Mets.

Bob Myrick was a left-handed reliever who pitched 82 games for the New York Mets from 1976 to 1978 and finished 3-6 with a 3.48 ERA and two saves. A Hattiesburg, Mississippi, native and the great-nephew of Washington Senators second baseman Buddy Myer, he played at Mississippi State, was drafted by Baltimore in the 29th round in 1970 but chose college, and signed with the Mets as a 20th-round pick in 1974. He asked the organization to make him a full-time reliever while pitching for Jackson in the Texas League in 1975. Called up from Tidewater on May 28, 1976, he spent his first night in the majors next to Tom Seaver's locker. The Mets traded him with Mike Bruhert to Texas for Dock Ellis in June 1979, and he was released after a season at Tucson. He pitched for the Cubs' Wichita and Iowa clubs before leaving the game in 1981 for Economy Supply, the building supply company his grandfather founded in 1941. He died in Hattiesburg in 2012 at age 59.
