1977 Topps #486 Ed Bane

About Ed Bane
Tacoma was his starting point again in 1976, and Minnesota brought him back in late June. Fifteen of his 17 games were starts. He finished 4-7 with a 5.11 ERA and completed one game. September 12 brought his last big-league appearance. He pitched in Tacoma in 1977 and became a free agent after that season. Topps listed him under the Minnesota Twins on #486.
Eddie Bane was a left-handed pitcher for the Minnesota Twins who came out of Arizona State, where he went 40-4 with a 1.64 ERA. He threw the only perfect game in Sun Devil history, against Cal State Northridge on March 2, 1973, and led the nation in strikeouts in 1972 and 1973. He won a silver medal with the United States team at the 1971 Pan American Games and was named to the 1973 College Baseball All-America Team. The Twins made him the 11th overall pick of the 1973 draft, and he joined Minnesota without a day in the minors. A September 1975 call-up brought a 3-1 record in four starts. His 44 games for Minnesota added up to a 7-13 record and a 4.66 ERA. He pitched in the minors until 1980 and won 49 games there. He was elected to the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008. Scouting and front-office work followed: special assistant to the general manager with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1999 to 2003, Angels scouting director from 2004 to 2010, and a Red Sox special assistant from October 2012. The George Genovese Lifetime Achievement Award in Scouting came on January 14, 2017.
