1977 Topps #320 Ken Griffey

About Ken Griffey
Griffey's 1976 was his best season: he hit .336 with 74 RBI and 34 steals, made the All-Star team and earned a Sporting News All-Star outfield spot. He lost the batting title to Bill Madlock of the Cubs on the final day. He then went 1-for-17 in the World Series sweep of the Yankees. Topps issued him as #320.
Ken Griffey Sr. was a left-handed outfielder who played 19 major league seasons, 1973 to 1991, and was a member of the Cincinnati Reds' Big Red Machine. Cincinnati drafted him in the 29th round in 1969 out of Donora, Pennsylvania, where football was his strongest sport. He debuted August 25, 1973, hit over .300 in five seasons for the Reds, and won two World Series with them in 1975 and 1976. He was a three-time All-Star and the MVP of the 1980 All-Star Game. Traded to the Yankees in November 1981, he later played for the Braves and returned to the Reds before finishing with the Seattle Mariners. There in 1990 he and his son Ken Griffey Jr. became the first father and son to be teammates in the majors. He retired after the 1991 season with a .296 average, 152 home runs and 859 RBI, and entered the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in 2004.
