The story on this card
The 1976 RBI race ended with Cincinnati's George Foster at 121 in the National League and Baltimore's Lee May at 109 in the American League, and Topps put the two sluggers together on League Leaders card #3. May drove in his 109 while playing 148 games and hitting 25 home runs for the Orioles. Foster's 121 came with 29 home runs and a .306 average for a Reds club that swept the Phillies in the NLCS and the Yankees in the World Series. May is printed with the Orioles and Foster with the Reds.
Royals first baseman Lee May collected his 2,000th major-league hit on June 8, 1981, against Yankees left-hander Dave Righetti, near the end of a career that began with Cincinnati. George Foster - outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds' Big Red Machine and the New York Mets. He won the 1977 National League MVP award with 52 home runs and 149 RBI, led the league in RBI three straight years, and hit 348 home runs.
