The story on this card
Card #2 in the 1977 Topps set is the 1976 home run leaders board. Graig Nettles of the Yankees led the American League with 32 home runs and finished with 93 RBI in 158 games, then hit two more home runs in Game 4 of the ALCS against Kansas City. Mike Schmidt of the Phillies topped the National League with 38 home runs and drove in 107 runs while playing all 160 games at third base.
Graig Nettles - a six-time All-Star third baseman and two-time Gold Glover with 390 career home runs, who played for four Yankees pennant winners, including the 1977 and 1978 World Series champions. Third baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies from 1972 to 1989, Mike Schmidt hit 548 home runs, led the National League in homers eight times, won three MVP awards and ten Gold Gloves, and entered the Hall of Fame in 1995.
