About Mike Wallace

The 1976 season was spent in the St. Louis bullpen: 49 games, a 3-2 record and two saves. Wallace's 4.07 ERA covered 66 1/3 innings. Topps printed him with the Texas Rangers on card #539 for 1977, and in Texas he pitched in five games, posting a 7.56 ERA over 8 1/3 innings. The last of those, on May 1, 1977, was his final major league appearance.

Mike Wallace was a left-handed pitcher who reached the majors in 1973 and pitched through 1977 for the Phillies, Yankees, Cardinals and Rangers. Philadelphia drafted him in the fourth round, 78th overall, in 1969 out of James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia, where he went 28-4 and carried the Warhawks to the 1968 and 1969 state championship games. In 1974 he went 7-0 with a 2.82 ERA in 31 games split between the Phillies and Yankees. He finished 11-3 with a 3.91 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 117 games. Looking back, he pointed to a September win over Jim Palmer in Baltimore as his shining moment in the majors. In 1979 he turned down an Orioles offer that did not include a major league contract. Since 2011 he has worked as a baseball analyst for the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, mostly covering the Washington Nationals on The Mid-Atlantic Sports Report and Nats Talk.
