About Willie Randolph

The Topps All-Star Rookie trophy sits on his #359 card, a nod to a 1976 season in which he hit .267, stole 37 bases in 125 games and started at second for the Yankees. He also made the American League All-Star team and took the club's James P. Dawson Award as the best rookie of spring training. In the postseason he went 2 for 17 in the ALCS against Kansas City and 1 for 14 in the World Series.

Willie Randolph was a second baseman who played 18 seasons, 1975 to 1992, and spent 13 of them with the New York Yankees. A Brooklyn-raised product of Samuel J. Tilden High School, he was a seventh-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1972 and reached the majors in July 1975. He was the Yankees' regular second baseman from 1976 to 1988, co-captain with Ron Guidry from 1986 to 1988, and won two World Series with the club. He made six All-Star teams, won the 1980 Silver Slugger Award at second base and led the league with 119 walks that year. His career line was a .276 average with 2,210 hits and 271 stolen bases. He finished with the Dodgers, Athletics, Brewers and Mets, hitting .327 for Milwaukee in 1991. As a coach he spent 11 years on the Yankees' staff, then managed the New York Mets from 2005 to June 2008, taking them to a 97-65 record and the NLCS in 2006. The Yankees honored him with a Monument Park plaque in 2015.
