About this card

The set's five Postseason cards: #276 1976 A.L. Championship (Yankees) and #277 1976 N.L. Championship (Reds) cover the league playoffs, and #411-413 are three 1976 World Series cards carrying the Reds.

The story on this card

Chris Chambliss, pictured on #276, ended Game 5 of the 1976 American League Championship Series at Yankee Stadium at 11:43 pm. Kansas City had tied the game 6-6 in the eighth when George Brett hit Grant Jackson's second pitch just over the short right-field wall. In the bottom of the ninth, Chambliss turned on Mark Littell's first pitch and sent it over the right center field wall for a 7-6 Yankee win. It was the first walk-off home run to end a League Championship Series, and it gave the Yankees the series 3-2 and their first pennant in twelve years. Fans poured onto the field, the plate was stolen, and Chambliss later touched the spot where it had been, with umpire Art Frantz waiting. MLB then amended rule 4.09, and the exception became known as the Chris Chambliss Rule.
