1978 Topps #477 Doug Capilla

About Doug Capilla
Capilla's rookie card, #477, lists him with the Cincinnati Reds. His 1978 season was short: six games, three of them starts, and an 0-1 record with a 9.82 ERA and 9 strikeouts over 11 innings. He also went hitless in two at-bats.
Doug Capilla was a left-handed pitcher from Honolulu who worked in the National League for six seasons, 1976 to 1981, with the Cardinals, Reds and Cubs. He attended Westmont High School and West Valley College in Saratoga, California, and the Giants drafted him in the 25th round in 1970. The Cardinals took him from San Francisco in the Rule 5 draft after the 1973 season, and he reached the majors on September 12, 1976. On June 15, 1977, St. Louis traded him to Cincinnati for Rawly Eastwick, and that season he went 7-8 with a 4.47 ERA over 24 games, including his only career complete game. The Reds sent him to the Cubs on May 3, 1979. His 1981 season for Chicago, 42 relief appearances with a 3.18 ERA, was his last in the majors. The Cubs traded him back to the Giants that December, and San Francisco released him in March 1982. He finished 12-18 with a 4.34 ERA in 136 games.
