1978 Topps #132 Enos Cabell

About Enos Cabell
Cabell became the first Astro to play the full 162-game schedule in 1978, and his 660 at-bats and his hit total were single-season franchise records. The hits record lasted until 1998, when Craig Biggio collected 210. His Topps card that year is #132, an Astros issue.
Enos Cabell was a 6-foot-4 right-handed third baseman and first baseman who played 15 major league seasons, from 1972 to 1986, and was Houston's regular third baseman in the late 1970s. Baltimore signed him as an amateur free agent in 1968, and he reached the Orioles in September 1972. On December 3, 1974 he went to Houston with Rob Andrews for Lee May and Jay Schlueter. He hit .295 with 195 hits in 1978, the year the Baseball Writers' Association of America named him the club's most valuable player, and stole 42 bases in 1977. He was on the 1980 Astros, the franchise's first National League West champions. San Francisco acquired him for Bob Knepper and Chris Bourjos in December 1980; later stops were Detroit, where he hit .311 in 1983, a return to Houston, and the Dodgers. His career line was .277 with 1,647 hits in 1,688 games. He stole 238 bases. He later worked as a special assistant to the Astros general manager.
