1978 Topps #514 Rob Sperring

About Rob Sperring
Sperring changed clubs twice before the 1977 season. On February 11 the Cubs sent him with Bill Madlock to San Francisco for Bobby Murcer, Steve Ontiveros and Andy Muhlstock. He never played for the Giants, who dealt him and Willie Crawford to Houston on March 26 for Rob Andrews and cash. With the Astros he hit .186 in 58 games, mostly at shortstop and second base. His #514 card shows him as an Astro.
Rob Sperring was a right-handed infielder from San Francisco who played four major league seasons, three with the Chicago Cubs (1974 to 1976) and one with the Houston Astros (1977). Born October 10, 1949, he debuted August 11, 1974, and appeared at second base, third base and shortstop.
