1979 Topps #547 Clint Hurdle

About Clint Hurdle
Hurdle batted .264 with 7 home runs and 56 RBI for Kansas City in 1978. On July 21, he went 3-for-3 and drove in 6 runs in a 9-0 win over Boston, including a homer off Dennis Eckersley. His 1979 Topps Royals card was #547.
Clint Hurdle played outfield, first base and third base during 10 major-league seasons with Kansas City, Cincinnati, the Mets and St. Louis, then managed the Rockies and Pirates. The Royals drafted the left-handed hitter ninth overall in 1975 out of Merritt Island High School in Florida. Hurdle and his parents negotiated his $50,000 signing bonus with scout Bill Fischer by passing figures across a restaurant table on a paper napkin. Later in his playing career, he also caught, appearing behind the plate in 17 games for the 1985 Mets. He began managing in the minors with St. Lucie in 1988. In Colorado, he led the Rockies to their first National League pennant in 2007. Pittsburgh reached the postseason in three consecutive years under Hurdle, from 2013 through 2015.
