About Kevin Kobel
Kobel's #21 shows him with the New York Mets after a 1978 season of 5-6 with a 2.91 ERA in 32 games. In 1979 he started 27 of his 30 games, going 6-8 with a 3.51 ERA. He struck out 67 over 161 2/3 innings.
Kevin Kobel was a left-handed pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets from 1973 to 1980. A Buffalo native, he was taken in the 11th round of the 1971 draft out of Saint Francis High School in Athol Springs. He debuted on September 8, 1973, a month before his 20th birthday, and is the only pitcher in Brewers history to debut as a teenager. His one full big-league year in Milwaukee came in 1974, when he went 6-14 with a 3.99 ERA. Arm trouble then sent him through the Brewers' farm system, and after a 1977 in the minors the Mets bought his contract. He pitched in New York in 1978, 1979 and 1980, going 12-18 with a 3.58 ERA. The Mets traded him to the Kansas City Royals on June 17, 1980, and he finished in the minors and the Mexican League. His major league line was 18-34 with a 3.88 ERA in 115 games.
