1979 Topps #401 Ray Knight

About Ray Knight
Pete Rose's departure for Philadelphia opened Cincinnati's third-base job for Knight in 1979. He had batted .200 in 83 games the previous year. His Reds card was #401. Knight hit .318 with 10 home runs and 79 RBI in 1979, placing fifth in National League MVP voting.
Ray Knight played the corner infield positions for Cincinnati, Houston, the New York Mets, Baltimore and Detroit. The Reds selected the Albany, Georgia, high-school player in the 10th round of the 1970 draft. Knight reached two All-Star Games and collected 1,311 major league hits. With the 1986 Mets, he scored the winning run in World Series Game 6 when Mookie Wilson's grounder went through Bill Buckner's legs. His seventh-inning home run broke a 3-3 tie in Game 7, and he earned Series MVP honors after batting .391. Knight later managed Cincinnati in 1996 and 1997 and worked as a television baseball analyst. He married professional golfer Nancy Lopez in 1982 and sometimes caddied for her.
