About Reggie Cleveland

Topps #209 listed Cleveland with Texas in 1979, but the Rangers had traded him to Milwaukee on December 15, 1978, for Ed Farmer, Gary Holle and cash. He made 29 appearances for the Brewers, one of them a start. He finished 1-5 with a 6.71 ERA in 55 innings.

Reggie Cleveland was a right-handed pitcher from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, raised in Cold Lake, Alberta, who worked 13 major league seasons (1969-81) for the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers. He signed with St. Louis in 1966 and took The Sporting News National League Rookie Pitcher of the Year award in 1971, his first full season. He made 27 starts for Boston in 1974 and later saved 4 games in each of 1979 and 1980 with Milwaukee. His only postseason came with the 1975 pennant-winning Red Sox, when he started Game 2 of the ALCS and Game 5 of the World Series. He finished with 105 wins, 106 losses and a 4.01 ERA in 428 games. He totaled 930 strikeouts, 12 shutouts and 25 saves. Cleveland was elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986 and later served as a pitching coach in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
