About Steve Brye

Brye's 1979 Topps card is #28 and shows him with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the club he played for in 1978. That season he collected 27 hits, scored 16 runs and stole 2 bases. He appeared in the outfield in 47 games.

Steve Brye was a right-handed outfielder who spent nine seasons in the majors, 1970 through 1978, most of them with the Minnesota Twins. The Twins took him in the first round of the June 1967 amateur draft, and he debuted on September 3, 1970, at age 21, going hitless in his only at-bat that day. His one year as a full-time starter came in 1974, when he won the center field job in spring training, hit .283 in 488 at-bats and led the Twins in doubles. He later played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1977 and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1978. The San Diego Padres signed him on February 7, 1979, but he retired before playing for them. He finished with a .258 average, 30 home runs and 193 RBI.
