1986-87 Fleer #30 Alex English

About Alex English
A silky small forward nicknamed "The Blade," Alex English came out of the University of South Carolina and was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round (23rd overall) of the 1976 NBA Draft. He spent 16 seasons in pro basketball, playing for the Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets, and Dallas Mavericks before finishing in Italy - but it was with Denver, from 1980 to 1990, that he became a star. English was an eight-time NBA All-Star (1982-1989) and a three-time All-NBA Second Team selection (1982, 1983, 1986). He led the league in scoring in 1982-83 at 28.4 points per game, became the first player to score 2,000 points in eight consecutive seasons, and outscored every other player in the entire 1980s decade, retiring with 25,613 career points. In 1988 he received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for his community work. Denver retired his No. 2 jersey, and he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997.

About this card
The 1986-87 Fleer Alex English is card #30 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Alex English was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Denver Nuggets.
