About Alton Lister

A 7-foot center out of Arizona State (after a year at San Jacinto Junior College), Alton Lavelle Lister was the 21st overall pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1981 NBA Draft. He carved out a durable 17-season career as a defensive-minded big man, playing 953 games for the Bucks, Seattle SuperSonics, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers between 1981 and 1998. Traded to Seattle for Jack Sikma before the 1986-87 season, Lister enjoyed the best year of his career that season with the Sonics, averaging 11.6 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks, which is exactly the season this card captures. A career 6.6-point, 6.3-rebound and 1.5-block per-game scorer, he was never an All-Star and won no championships, but was respected as a solid rebounder and shot blocker. He wore jersey No. 53 his entire career, playing the second-most games of any No. 53 in NBA history behind only Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore. This is Lister's rookie card, issued in his first year with Seattle.
