About Gerald Henderson

A combo guard out of Virginia Commonwealth University, Gerald Henderson (born 1956) was a third-round pick, 64th overall, in the 1978 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs and went on to play 13 NBA seasons from 1979 to 1992. He suited up for seven franchises - the Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics (his team on this card, where he landed his best statistical seasons from 1984 to 1987), New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets - and won three championships: with Boston in 1981 and 1984 and with the "Bad Boys" Pistons in 1990. He is best remembered for one of the most famous defensive plays in Finals history: in Game 2 of the 1984 NBA Finals, with the Celtics trailing the Lakers, he intercepted a James Worthy pass and drove in for the game-tying layup, sending the game to overtime and helping turn a series Boston won in seven.

About this card

The 1986-87 Fleer Gerald Henderson is card #45 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Gerald Henderson was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Seattle SuperSonics.
