1986-87 Fleer #46 Roy Hinson

About Roy Hinson
A 6'9" power forward out of Rutgers, where he was named Atlantic 10 co-Player of the Year in 1983, Roy Hinson was drafted 20th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1983 NBA Draft. He played eight seasons (1983-1991) for three teams: the Cavaliers (1983-86), Philadelphia 76ers (1986-88), and New Jersey Nets (1988-91), appearing in 507 games and averaging 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. His breakout came in 1985-86, when he averaged 19.6 points over 82 games for Cleveland. That performance set up the trade that defines this card: on draft night 1986 the 76ers sent the No. 1 overall pick (used on Brad Daugherty) plus $800,000 to Cleveland to acquire Hinson, a swap widely remembered as one of the worst in 76ers history. He never recaptured his Cleveland form in Philadelphia and was dealt to the Nets midway through 1987-88, retiring after the 1990-91 season.

About this card
The 1986-87 Fleer Roy Hinson is card #46 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Because of the multi-year gap, it is the recognized Rookie Card for Roy Hinson. He is pictured with the Philadelphia 76ers.
