1986-87 Fleer #15 Tom Chambers
1986-87 Fleer #15 Tom Chambers

About Tom Chambers
Thomas Doane Chambers, a 6'10" forward out of the University of Utah, was the 8th overall pick of the 1981 NBA Draft by the San Diego Clippers. Over a 16-season career (1981-1997) he suited up for six franchises - the Clippers, Seattle SuperSonics, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, Charlotte Hornets and Philadelphia 76ers - and this Fleer card captures him in his Seattle prime. A prolific scorer, Chambers was a four-time All-Star (1987, 1989, 1990, 1991) and two-time All-NBA Second Team selection (1989, 1990). He became the most unlikely of stars at the 1987 All-Star Game: a late injury replacement for Ralph Sampson, he poured in a game-high 34 points to earn All-Star Game MVP honors in his home Seattle Kingdome. In 1988 he made history off the court as the NBA's first unrestricted free agent, signing with Phoenix - a move that reshaped modern free agency. He retired with 20,049 career points (18.1 ppg) and reached the NBA Finals with the Suns in 1993.
