About Lewis Lloyd

Lewis Kevin Lloyd (1959-2019) was a 6'6" swingman out of Drake University, where he was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and two-time Third-Team All-American before the school retired his No. 30. The Golden State Warriors took him in the fourth round (76th overall) of the 1981 NBA Draft, and he played nine NBA seasons for the Warriors (1981-83), Houston Rockets (1983-87), and Philadelphia 76ers (1989-90), averaging 13.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists over 388 games. A reliable scorer, he appeared in all 20 playoff games as Houston reached the 1986 NBA Finals, where the Rockets fell to the Boston Celtics. Nicknamed "Black Magic" for his flashy play back at Philadelphia's Overbrook High School, Lloyd saw his career derailed in late 1986 when he tested positive for cocaine alongside teammate Mitchell Wiggins and drew a 2 1/2-year suspension; reinstated in September 1989, he played just two final games with the 76ers. This is his rookie card.
