About Allen Leavell
Allen Frazier Leavell was a 6'1" point guard out of Oklahoma City University, taken by the Houston Rockets in the fifth round (104th overall) of the 1979 NBA Draft. He spent his entire ten-season NBA career (1979-1989) with Houston, appearing in 700 regular-season games and averaging 9.5 points and 4.8 assists. A steady floor general, Leavell set a franchise record with 22 assists in a single game on January 25, 1983, and he ranks among the Rockets' all-time leaders in both assists (3,339) and steals (929). He was a key rotation guard on two Houston teams that reached the NBA Finals - in 1981 and again in 1986 - though both series ended in losses to the Boston Celtics. After his playing days he remained connected to the franchise through community work and local broadcasting, and was inducted into the Oklahoma City University Hall of Fame.
