1986-87 Fleer #110 LaSalle Thompson
1986-87 Fleer #110 LaSalle Thompson

About LaSalle Thompson
Nicknamed "Tank" for his bruising, 6'10", 245-pound frame during his days at the University of Texas, LaSalle Thompson III was a rugged center/power forward who left Austin as the Longhorns' all-time rebounding leader with 1,027 boards in just three seasons. The Kansas City Kings made him the fifth overall pick in the 1982 NBA Draft, and this Fleer card captures him as a Sacramento King early in what became a durable 15-year professional career (1982-1997). Thompson spent his first seven seasons with the Kings franchise (Kansas City, then Sacramento) before a long run with the Indiana Pacers, later playing for the Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets. A defense-and-rebounding specialist rather than a scorer, he averaged 7.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for his career and was a key reserve on the 1993-94 Pacers team that reached the Eastern Conference Finals. He later served as an NBA assistant coach with the Charlotte Bobcats and New York Knicks.
