1986-87 Fleer #129 Mike Woodson

About Mike Woodson
A 6'5" shooting guard out of Indiana University, where he starred for Bob Knight and was the 1980 Big Ten Player of the Year, Mike Woodson was drafted 12th overall by the New York Knicks in the 1980 NBA Draft. He played 11 NBA seasons (1980-1991) for six teams: the Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Kansas City/Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers. Woodson found his footing in Kansas City/Sacramento, where he spent five seasons alternating between starter and sixth man and posted a career-high 18.2 points per game in 1982-83; this card catches him near the end of that Kings run. He averaged 14.0 points across 786 career games. Woodson was never an All-Star, but he built a long second act on the bench, winning a title as a Detroit Pistons assistant in 2004 and serving as head coach of the Atlanta Hawks (2004-2010) and New York Knicks (2012-2014) before returning to coach his alma mater, Indiana.

About this card
The 1986-87 Fleer Mike Woodson is card #129 in Fleer's landmark 'Premier' issue - the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps and, for many collectors, the start of the modern era of basketball cards. Mike Woodson was already an established star by 1986; this is not his rookie card, but he is one of the names that make the set a who's-who of the era. He is pictured with the Sacramento Kings.
