1986-87 Fleer #88 Paul Pressey
1986-87 Fleer #88 Paul Pressey
A "Rule of 11" card: it sat at the edge of the 132-card press sheet, so copies tend to come off-center with print problems and edge wear - making high grades scarcer than the player's fame would suggest.

About Paul Pressey
Paul Matthew Pressey was a 6'5" swingman drafted in the first round (20th overall) of the 1982 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks out of the University of Tulsa. Over 11 seasons (1982-1993) he played for the Bucks (1982-1990), San Antonio Spurs (1990-1992), and Golden State Warriors (1992-1993). Under Bucks coach Don Nelson, Pressey became one of the NBA's original "point forwards" - a forward who ran the offense like a point guard - and he led Milwaukee in assists for five straight seasons. A relentless defender, he earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors in 1985 and 1986 and Second Team in 1987, and he reached the Eastern Conference Finals three times with the Bucks. He retired with career averages of 10.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game, then spent decades as an NBA and college assistant coach, winning a title as a Spurs assistant in 1999. This is his rookie card; it sits on the edge of the 132-card press sheet (a "Rule of 11" card), so well-centered, clean copies are notably tougher to find than his profile suggests.

About this card

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1986-87 Fleer Paul Pressey card?
It is card #88 of 132 in the 1986-87 Fleer Basketball set - Fleer's 'Premier' issue and the first nationally-distributed NBA set since 1981-82 Topps. It pictures the Milwaukee Bucks Paul Pressey, and is his recognized rookie card.
Is the 1986-87 Fleer Paul Pressey his rookie card?
Yes - the hobby treats 1986-87 Fleer as the Rookie Card for any player whose first nationally-distributed (pack-issued) card it is. Paul Pressey had no Topps card before the set, so this is his recognized RC. (Limited-distribution Star Company cards from 1983-86 are classed as Extended Rookie Cards.)
Why is the Paul Pressey hard to find in high grade?
It is one of the set's condition-sensitive cards. The flush red/white/blue borders chip to reveal the white core at the slightest touch, and centering is tough - so high grades are far scarcer than the player's profile suggests.
Is the 1986-87 Fleer Paul Pressey valuable?
Value depends heavily on grade and centering. Use the links above to check current T206 Cards inventory and live eBay listings.
