About Gerald Wilkins

Dominique's kid brother spent 13 NBA seasons proving the bounce ran in the family. A second-round steal — 47th overall in 1985 out of Moberly Area CC and Tennessee-Chattanooga — the 6-6 swingman started right away for the Knicks and settled in as New York's second scoring option behind Patrick Ewing, peaking at 19.1 points per game in 1986-87 and averaging 14.3 the season this card was printed. He followed Dominique into the Slam Dunk Contest in both 1986 and 1987. After seven years at the Garden, Cleveland signed him in 1992 as its anointed "Jordan Stopper," a nickname Michael Jordan personally dismantled with 43 points in Game 1 of the 1993 Eastern Conference semifinals. Later stops in Vancouver and Orlando — where he finally shared a floor with his brother in 1998-99 — closed the book at 900 games and 11,736 points. Not a rookie card, but a prime-years Fleer snapshot of the Knicks' other high-flying Wilkins.
