About Patrick Ewing
The No. 1 overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft after a legendary Georgetown run — three NCAA title games in four years under John Thompson, capped by the 1984 championship and Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors — Patrick Ewing arrived in New York as the most anticipated big man of his era. The 7-foot center delivered immediately: 1985-86 Rookie of the Year, then 11 All-Star nods, seven All-NBA teams, and 15 seasons as the Knicks' cornerstone before closing with Seattle (2000-01) and Orlando (2001-02). He retired with 24,815 points, 11,617 rebounds, and 2,894 blocks, plus Olympic gold in 1984 and 1992 with the Dream Team. Nicknamed the "Hoya Destroya" for the shot-blocking terror he brought to Georgetown's defense, Ewing carried New York to the Finals in 1994 and 1999 but never captured a ring as a player. Card #80 isn't his rookie — it catches him mid-prime, coming off a 22.7-point, 3.5-block All-NBA Second Team season. He was enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
