About Magic Johnson
The Showtime maestro at the peak of his powers — Magic captured his second MVP the very season this card hit packs, averaging 22.5 points and 12.8 assists in 1988-89. Earvin Johnson Jr. earned the name at 15, when Lansing State Journal sportswriter Fred Stabley Jr. dubbed him "Magic" after a 36-point, 18-rebound, 16-assist high school triple-double. He toppled Larry Bird's Indiana State for Michigan State's 1979 NCAA crown, went first overall to the Lakers that summer, and closed his rookie year by starting the 1980 Finals clincher at center, dropping 42 points to become the only rookie Finals MVP ever. The 6-9 point guard delivered five titles (1980, '82, '85, '87, '88), three MVPs (1987, '89, '90), twelve All-Star selections, and a record 11.2 assists per game — 10,141 dimes across 13 Laker seasons. Not a rookie card, but prime Magic in a landmark set. Naismith Hall of Fame, Class of 2002.

What is the 1988-89 Fleer All-Star subset?
Cards #120-131: Fleer's own twelve-card All-Star Team subset - its first - in a dedicated design, headlined by Michael Jordan #120.
