1988-89 Fleer #65 Michael Cooper

About Michael Cooper
A third-round steal — 60th overall out of New Mexico in 1978 — Michael Cooper spent all twelve of his NBA seasons (1978-90) as the Showtime Lakers' defensive conscience, a wiry 6'7" guard-forward in trademark knee-high socks. He piled up eight All-Defensive Team selections (five first-team), the 1986-87 Defensive Player of the Year award, and five rings (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988), and Larry Bird called him the best defender he ever faced. Forum crowds stretched "Coop" into a rolling "Coooooooop" chant whenever he controlled the ball, and the lob play built for him was dubbed the Coop-a-loop. Card #65 in 1988-89 Fleer isn't his rookie — he was a decade-deep veteran here, fresh off back-to-back titles and headed for 7.3 points across 80 games that season. Career line: 8.9 points and 4.2 assists over 873 games, with 1,033 steals. The Naismith Hall finally called with the Class of 2024, and the Lakers retired his No. 21 a year later.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-18. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. The graders do not break out the stickers, so sticker pages carry no table.
