About Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Born Lew Alcindor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar came into the NBA off three straight NCAA titles at UCLA and went first overall to Milwaukee in the 1969 draft. The 1970 Rookie of the Year delivered the Bucks' first championship in 1971, then anchored the Lakers at center from 1975-76 through 1988-89, his unstoppable skyhook powering the Showtime era. He retired with a record six MVPs (1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980), 19 All-Star selections, six rings, two Finals MVPs, and 38,387 points, a career scoring mark he claimed in 1984 and held until 2023. Nicknamed "The Tower from Power" for carrying Power Memorial High through a 71-game winning streak, he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995. Card #64 is no rookie card, as his true RC dates to his 1969 arrival, but this Fleer issue catches the 41-year-old legend in his 20th and final season, a farewell shot collectors still prize.
