About Bob Brown
Robert Murray Brown was a right-handed pitcher from Dorchester, Massachusetts, who won a promotion to the Boston Braves on April 21, 1930. He pitched all or part of seven seasons for the club, closing out his career on May 3, 1936, for the newly renamed Boston Bees, with additional stops for the Springfield Senators, Binghamton Triplets, Albany Senators, and Syracuse Chiefs in the high minors. In 16–21 career decisions he posted a 4.48 ERA, striking out 159 batters against 193 walks. Card #81 in the 1934 Goudey set is recognized as Brown's rookie card, picturing him with the Braves during his big-league run. It belongs to the tough National League stretch of "Chuck Klein Says" banner cards, #80 through #91, part of Goudey's scarce high-number series that has always been the hardest run of the set for collectors to complete.
