1934 Goudey #80 Marty McManus
One of the 12 "Chuck Klein says" cards (#80-91), all National Leaguers: with an American Leaguer fronting the rest of the set, Goudey gave its last dozen NL subjects a spokesman from their own circuit — a red strip with Klein's photo where the blue Gehrig strip usually sits.

About Marty McManus
Marty McManus broke in with the St. Louis Browns in 1920, launching a 15-year career as a steady American League infielder. A versatile second baseman and third baseman, he hit .289 for his career across stops with the Browns (1920-1926), Detroit Tigers (1927-1931), Boston Red Sox (1931-1933), and Boston Braves (1934), collecting 1,926 hits, 120 home runs, and 992 RBI. He topped the AL in doubles with 44 in 1925 and in stolen bases with 23 in 1930, and hit a career-best .333 in 1924. He took over as the Red Sox's player-manager in 1932 and guided a 20-game turnaround in 1933, before a rift with general manager Eddie Collins ended his tenure. Dealt to the Braves for his final big-league season, McManus delivered a 10th-inning grand slam against Cincinnati that July — pictured here in the scarce, red-banner “Chuck Klein Says” high-number series of 1934 Goudey. He later managed in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, piloting the Kenosha Comets and South Bend Blue Sox.
