1955 Topps All-American #83 Ted Coy
About Ted Coy
Ted Coy was the gold standard of early American football's power runners, a blond, 195-pound fullback who bulled through Yale's rivals from 1907 through 1909 and played in just one losing game in three varsity seasons. He earned All-America honors in all three years, and as captain in 1909 he drove one of the greatest teams the old game produced: Yale went 10-0, scored 209 points and did not allow a single point all season. Walter Camp later placed him at fullback on his all-time All-America team, and F. Scott Fitzgerald modeled the football idol of "The Freshest Boy" on him. Coy coached Yale to a 6-2-2 mark in 1910, then settled into Wall Street work and football writing for major newspapers before his death in 1935 at 47. When the College Football Hall of Fame opened its doors in 1951, Coy stood in the inaugural class.
