About Albie Booth

Albie Booth stood 5-foot-6 and weighed 144 pounds, and no Yale player of his era thrilled a crowd more. The "Little Boy Blue" announced himself in 1929, coming off the bench against Army with Yale down 13-0 and scoring all 21 points — two touchdown runs, a 65-yard punt return and three extra points — in a 21-13 upset the newsreels billed as "Booth 21, Army 13." The little tailback ran, kicked and returned for the Elis through 1931, when he scored on a 94-yard kickoff return, a 53-yard run and a 22-yard catch in a wild 33-33 tie with Dartmouth, then ended his career by drop-kicking the field goal that beat Harvard 3-0 with both teams unbeaten. Booth starred in baseball and basketball at Yale too, later coached at Yale and NYU, and became a respected football official; the Albie Booth Memorial Boys Club in New Haven keeps his name alive. The College Football Hall of Fame added the "Mighty Atom" in 1966.
