About the 1958 Cincinnati Reds
In 1958 the Cincinnati club officially went by the 'Redlegs,' the name the franchise used during the 1950s before it went back to 'Reds.' The team finished fourth in the National League in 1957 at 80-74. Its centerpiece was outfielder Frank Robinson, the 1956 NL Rookie of the Year - he tied a major-league record with 38 home runs as a rookie - and one of the league's most promising young sluggers. In 1958 he was joined by rookie center fielder Vada Pinson, who debuted that April and grew into a durable star. Both reached the Hall of Fame. Card #428 carries a series checklist on its back, and Cincinnati is among the teams found with players listed alphabetically.
