Daniel Eugene McDevitt was a left-handed pitcher born November 18, 1932, in Manhattan and raised in Hallstead, Pennsylvania, where he starred in high school. He was attending St. Bonaventure University when the Yankees signed him as an amateur free agent in September 1951; released the next year, he served in the Army during the Korean War and then worked his way up the Dodgers chain.
