About the 1958 Los Angeles Dodgers

Card #71 marks a watershed: 1958 was the Dodgers' first season in Los Angeles after the franchise left Brooklyn, where it had gone 84-70 for third place in 1957. Combined with the Giants' move to San Francisco, the relocation brought Major League Baseball to the Pacific Coast for the first time. The roster still carried Brooklyn's stars - sluggers Duke Snider and Gil Hodges - alongside young left-hander Sandy Koufax and right-hander Don Drysdale, two future Hall of Fame pitchers who would anchor the staff for the next decade. The back of the card lists a series checklist, new to Topps team cards in 1958.
