Mike Baxes was born in San Francisco on December 18, 1930, and grew up to play two seasons in the major leagues, both with the Kansas City Athletics, in 1956 and 1958. A right-handed hitter and thrower listed at 5 feet 10 inches and 175 pounds, he worked mostly as a second baseman and shortstop. Over 146 big-league games he collected 73 hits in 337 at bats for a .217 average, with one home run, 13 runs batted in, 40 runs scored and one stolen base. His brother, Jim Baxes, also reached the majors as a second baseman and third baseman, making this a two-brother family in the big leagues. Mike never appeared in an All-Star Game or a postseason, and he is not a Hall of Famer. He died in San Francisco on April 13, 2023, at the age of 92.
