1962 Topps #306 Redbird Rippers
On this card: Lindy McDaniel, Larry Jackson

About this card
This is one of the eleven combo cards in the set, each pairing two or three players under a headline rather than giving one man his own card - Managers' Dream (#18, Mantle and Mays), AL & NL Homer Kings (#401, Maris and Cepeda) and Rival League Relief Aces (#423, Face and Wilhelm) among them.
The story on this card
Topps hung an alliterative tag on #306 and handed it to two St. Louis pitchers, Lindy McDaniel and Larry Jackson. Redbirds is a Cardinals nickname of long standing; Rippers sounds like something you would call sluggers, but the two men here threw. The logic of the pairing was the staff itself, Jackson working the rotation and McDaniel the bullpen, both Cardinals since 1955. It outlasted the card: after the 1962 season the Cardinals sent the pair, with Jimmie Schaffer, to the Chicago Cubs for George Altman, Don Cardwell and Moe Thacker. It is a combination card from the fourth series.
Lindy McDaniel - durable right-handed reliever who pitched 21 big-league seasons for five clubs, led his league in saves three times, twice won The Sporting News Fireman of the Year award, and finished with 174 saves and 1,361 strikeouts. Larry Jackson - durable right-hander for the Cardinals, Cubs and Phillies from 1955 to 1968; a four-time National League All-Star who won 194 games and finished runner-up in the 1964 Cy Young voting.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
