1964 Topps #441 Bob Duliba

About Bob Duliba
Card #441 sits in series 5 of the 1964 set and is Duliba's first card in an Angels uniform. It arrived in his heaviest big-league season: 58 relief appearances, 72 2/3 innings, a 6-4 record, nine saves and a 3.59 ERA. He finished 35 of them, enough to put him inside the American League's top ten in both games pitched and games finished. That one summer accounted for roughly a third of the 176 games he pitched in the majors.
Robert John "Ach" Duliba was born January 9, 1935, in Glen Lyon, Pennsylvania, the only Newport Township High School player ever to reach the majors. Cardinals scouts Pop Kelchner and Stan Brackenridge, there to see a teammate, watched him strike out 18 of 21 Nanticoke batters and signed him instead; manager Whitey Kurowski hung the nickname "Ach" on him at Peoria in 1954. After three Marine Corps years at Parris Island and in Hawaii, he went 8-5 at Triple-A Omaha alongside a young Bob Gibson and debuted for St. Louis on August 11, 1959. A right-hander who never started a big-league game in 176 appearances, he worked for the Cardinals, Angels, Red Sox and Athletics, finishing 17-12 with a 3.47 ERA, 14 saves and 129 strikeouts. His 1960 season ended July 10 in a crash outside Columbia, Missouri that killed three passengers he was driving to Ray Sadecki's wedding. He later taught history at Wyoming Area High School, coached baseball at Wilkes University, and died April 4, 2026, at 91.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1964 Topps #441 card?
It is card #441 of the 587-card 1964 Topps Baseball set, picturing Bob Duliba of the Los Angeles Angels.
Why is #441 harder to find?
It is a series 5-6 card. Cards from the fifth and sixth print series (#371-522) are a step tougher to find than #1-370; availability in 1964 runs in three tiers, not a cliff.
How many cards are in the 1964 Topps Baseball set?
587 cards, tracked as 589 collectible states. Numbers run from 1 to 587 with no gaps, and no number carries two different cards; two cards - #4, the A.L. Pitching Leaders, and #517, the seventh-series checklist - carry a catalogued back variation that the master set counts separately.
