1967 Topps #86 Mike McCormick
Two collectible states: one carries a trade line under the biography and names the Giants, the other has no trade line and still lists him with Washington.

About Mike McCormick
Card #86 reports a 1966 spent with Washington: 11-14 with a 3.46 earned run average over 216 innings and 32 starts, his first double-digit win total since 1961. On December 13 the Senators sent him home to San Francisco for Cap Peterson and Bob Priddy, and Topps added a trade line partway through the printing. One state carries that line under the biography and names the Giants; the other has no trade line and still lists Washington.
Mike McCormick was born September 29, 1938, in Pasadena, California, and signed with the New York Giants on August 31, 1956, for a $50,000 bonus out of Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra. The bonus rule kept such a signing on the big-league roster, so the left-hander debuted four days later at seventeen, having never pitched in the minors. Sixteen seasons followed: the New York and San Francisco Giants (1956-1962 and 1967-1970), the Baltimore Orioles (1963-1964), the Washington Senators (1965-1966), the New York Yankees (1970) and the Kansas City Royals (1971). He led the National League with a 2.70 earned run average in 1960 and made all four All-Star squads of 1960 and 1961, when the majors staged two games a summer. A ruined shoulder nearly finished him at twenty-four; he rebuilt himself around a screwball and went 22-10 in 1967 to win San Francisco's first Cy Young Award and The Sporting News awards for Pitcher of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year. He retired with 134 wins, 128 losses, a 3.73 ERA, 1,321 strikeouts and 23 shutouts in 484 games, sold securities and then office equipment, and died June 13, 2020, at 81 in North Carolina. He is not a National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee; the Giants honor him on their Wall of Fame.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Data as of 2026-09-04. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation; PSA and SGC slabs whose label names no variation are listed as not designated. PSA registers a row for every one of the 624 states; SGC lists no separate row for the #149 white-streak state.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1967 Topps #86 card?
It is card #86 of the 609-card 1967 Topps Baseball set, picturing Mike McCormick of the San Francisco Giants.
Why do the two states of #86 list different teams?
Mike McCormick and Bob Priddy (#26) were swapped in December 1966. Each card exists with and without the trade statement, and the printing without it still lists the old club - so #86 reads San Francisco on the base card, his Cy Young season club, and Washington on the no-trade-statement state.
Does 1967 Topps #86 have variations?
Yes. Two states are catalogued and tracked individually: 86a - With Trade Statement (The base card carries the December 1966 trade line and lists McCormick with the San Francisco Giants - his 1967 club and his Cy Young season) and 86b - No Trade Statement (No trade statement; the card lists the Washington Senators (traded for Bob Priddy)). Owning any one of them fills the #86 slot; the master set counts each state.
How many cards are in the 1967 Topps Baseball set?
609 cards, tracked as 624 collectible states. Numbers run from 1 to 609 without a gap - no number was skipped and none was used twice - and 15 cards carry catalogued print variations that the master set counts separately.
