1968 Topps #91 Jim Ollom

About Jim Ollom
Card #91 in the 1968 Topps set shows Ollom as a Minnesota Twin, issued in the first series after his first full season with the club. By spring, Ollom had struggled in Twins camp and been sent back to Denver in the farm system, the start of two more minor-league seasons before arm and control trouble ended his career in 1969.
James Donald Ollom, a 6-foot-4 left-hander from Snohomish, Washington, signed with the New York Yankees in 1963 and was later drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the minor league draft. He won 20 games for Denver of the Pacific Coast League in 1966, earning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year honors and a late-season callup to the Twins. Ollom pitched for Minnesota in 1966 and 1967, working mostly out of the bullpen, and collected his only major league hit off Washington's Phil Ortega in 1967. His lone big-league decision was a loss to Kansas City that same year. Continued arm and control trouble in the minors led him to retire after the 1969 season at age 24. He went on to work for decades as a sales representative for a food wholesaler covering the Western United States and was inducted into the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.
