1969 Topps #83 Mike Ferraro

About Mike Ferraro
Card #83 catches Ferraro as a Seattle Pilot in the expansion team's only season in the Pacific Northwest. He had been claimed off the Yankees in the 1968 expansion draft but appeared in just five games and four at-bats for Seattle before being traded to Baltimore, where he spent the next two years in the minors before the Pilots, by then moved to Milwaukee, brought him back in 1972.
Mike Ferraro was a third baseman from Kingston, New York, who starred in three sports at Kingston High School before signing with the Yankees as an amateur free agent. He reached the majors with New York in 1966 and 1968, was left unprotected in the 1968 expansion draft and taken by the Seattle Pilots, then was quickly traded to Baltimore, spending two seasons in the minors. A 1971 trade sent him back to the Pilots franchise, by then relocated to Milwaukee, where in 1972 he had his only season as a regular, playing 124 games and batting .255 with two home runs and 29 RBI. His playing career ended after a brief 1974 comeback try with the Yankees. He went on to a long career as a minor league manager and major league coach, managing the Cleveland Indians in 1983 and later serving as emergency manager of the Kansas City Royals in 1986, and he won a World Series ring on Dick Howser's Royals coaching staff.
