He spent 1968 as a Tigers reserve, made the World Series roster, and delivered a pinch-hit single off Joe Hoerner in Game 3 for a perfect 1.000 Series average. Selected by the Seattle Pilots in the 1968 expansion draft, Comer became an everyday outfielder, leading the club in runs scored and pacing American League outfielders in double plays turned. He continued with the Pilots' successor Milwaukee Brewers and the Washington Senators, then closed his major league career back with Detroit. Comer played 316 games over five big-league seasons before finishing his professional career in the minors. He later coached high school baseball for many years in his native Virginia.
