The story on this card
Card 168 of the 1969 Topps World Series subset, part of the set's second print series, recaps the deciding Game 7 of the 1968 Fall Classic and pictures Detroit pitcher Mickey Lolich working on just two days' rest against St. Louis ace Bob Gibson. The two aces matched zeroes for six innings before the Tigers broke through in the seventh: Norm Cash and Willie Horton singled, and Jim Northrup followed with a drive to center that Curt Flood misjudged, letting two runs score and turning the ball into a triple. Bill Freehan doubled Northrup home for a third run, and Lolich carried that support to a complete-game win, his third of the Series, as Detroit closed out St. Louis 4-1 and clinched its first championship since 1945, capping a comeback from a three-games-to-one deficit.
