The story on this card
Card 163 is part of the 1969 Topps World Series subset, print series 2, recapping Game 2 of the 1968 Fall Classic between the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals. Tigers starter Mickey Lolich threw a complete game, striking out nine, and helped his own cause with a home run in the third inning off Cardinals starter Nelson Briles, the only home run of his professional career. Willie Horton also homered in the second inning, and Norm Cash led off the sixth with another Detroit homer as the Tigers pulled away. Dick McAuliffe added a two-run single that inning, and Detroit tacked on two more runs in the ninth on bases-loaded walks to Don Wert and Lolich. The power outburst evened the Series at one game apiece after St. Louis had taken Game 1 behind Bob Gibson's record 17-strikeout shutout.
