About this card

Cards #162-169 tell the 1968 World Series game by game - the Tigers over the Cardinals in seven, from Bob Gibson's 17-strikeout Game 1 to Mickey Lolich outdueling Gibson in Game 7 - and close with #169, the Tigers celebrating their victory.

The story on this card

Card 169 is part of the 1969 Topps World Series subset, part of the set's second print series, and commemorates the Detroit Tigers' triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1968 World Series. Detroit had trailed three games to one before winning three straight to take the title, its first championship since 1945. Mickey Lolich threw three complete-game victories on the way to World Series MVP honors, including the Game 7 clincher on the road over Bob Gibson and the Cardinals. Freehan's Game 5 tag of Lou Brock at the plate helped keep the comeback alive.
